Three Ways to Save on Your Teenage Driver's Car Insurance
By Tom Wiecek, President of the Society of Family Insurance Specialists

Teenage car insurance can be quite expensive. This may not come as a shock to many of you who either have teenage children or remember back to your teenage years when you had to pay for your own auto insurance. The reason that coverage costs so much more for teens is because they are far more likely to be involved in an accident.

According to the Institute for Highway safety, teenage drivers between the ages of 16 and 19 years old are four times more likely to be involved in a car accident than any other age group, and their accidents usually result in much higher claims than other age groups. Because of these facts it's understandable that insuring teenage drivers would be considerably more expensive but there are some things you can do to help reduce the costs on your auto insurance quotes.

Adding teens to the insurance policy of their parents is one way to save some money on your car insurance quotes, especially if the parents have a good driving record. Combining your home owners' and car insurance policies with the same carrier will generally also qualify you for discounts.

You should talk to your insurance agent and ask for any other possible discounts that you may qualify for such as having a good driving record, being with the same insurance company for a long time, installing a teen driver monitoring system, or a good grade discount for your teenager. It varies greatly from one company to another, but it never hurts to ask about any possible discounts on your car insurance quotes for which you might be eligible.

After getting auto insurance quotes on adding a teenage driver to the parent's policy and inquiring about other possible discounts, if you're still not satisfied with the amount of money you are going to have to pay for teenage car insurance, you may want to think about getting car insurance quotes from other carriers.

If you're already working with a TeenDriverInsurance.com agent, they will have already found the best auto insurance option for you. There's a lot of competition in the insurance market today and this competition creates opportunities to save money. The price you pay for insurance can vary greatly from one company to another so make sure your agent can help you with this. But don't be penny wise and pound foolish. There really is no such thing as cheap insurance, since paying the lowest price usually means sacrificing coverage, thus increasing your exposure.

Ultimately, the reason you have insurance is to protect yourself and your assets if an accident happens. Make sure the coverage you buy is sufficient for that eventuality. You need to get good advice from your agent to make sure you have adequate coverage, not just cheap insurance, so if your current insurance agent doesn't specialize in helping parents with teen drivers, find one that does.
